چکیده

In this paper, we answer the question about the existence of the minimal speed of front propagation in a delayed version of the Murray model of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) chemical reaction. It is assumed that the key parameter r of this model satisfies 0 < r ≤ 1 that makes it formally monostable. By proving that the set of all admissible speeds of propagation has the form [c∗,+∞), we show here that the BZ system with r ∈ (0, 1] is actually of the monostable type (in general, c∗ is not linearly determined). We also establish the monotonicity of wavefronts and present the principal terms of their asymptotic expansions at infinity (in the critical case r = 1 inclusive).

Excitation waves in reaction–diffusion media with non-monotonic dispersion relations

We report results on chemical wave propagation obtained from experiments with a modified Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. Under pseudo-onedimensional reaction conditions, excitation pulses either form closely stacked, stable wavepackets or merge with a slow leading pulse in front-to-back collisions. Moreover, wave stacking can involve the cascading formation of metastable clusters. These phenomen...

Front velocity in models with quadratic autocatalysis

Front propagation is studied in several reaction–diffusion models based on the Oregonator model of the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. Each system involves autocatalysis (X→2X), termination (2X→0) and consumption of the autocatalyst (X→0, X1Y→0), augmented with interconversion (X↔R) between the autocatalyst X and a rapidly diffusing unreactive species R. We investigate the dependence of the fron...

Minimal Wave Speed of Traveling Wavefronts in Delayed Belousov-Zhabotinskii Model

This paper is concerned with the traveling wavefronts of Belousov-Zhabotinskii model with time delay. By constructing upper and lower solutions and applying the theory of asymptotic spreading, the minimal wave speed is obtained under the weaker condition than that in the known results. Moreover, the strict monotonicity of any monotone traveling wavefronts is also established.

Tutorial Review: Simulation of Oscillating Chemical Reactions Using Microsoft Excel Macros

Oscillating reactions are one of the most interesting topics in chemistry and analytical chemistry. Fluctuations in concentrations of one the reacting species (usually a reaction intermediate) create an oscillating chemical reaction. In oscillating systems, the reaction is far from thermodynamic equilibrium. In these systems, at least one autocatalytic step is required. Developing an instinctiv...

Identification of a temperature Dependent FitzHugh-Nagumo Model for the Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction

This paper describes the identification of a temperature dependent FitzHugh–Nagumo model directly from experimental observations with controlled inputs. By studying the steady states and the trajectory of the phase of the variables, the stability of the model is analyzed and a rule to generate oscillation waves is proposed. The dependence of the oscillation frequency and propagation speed on th...
